FAQs
1. As per subject selection sheet which we received for AY 23-24, PCB only in Edexcel not in Cambridge A level
Yes, as Edexcel has “Alternative to Practicals” in AS/A levels also. Students can study Cambridge for other subjects and pursue Science only from Edexcel. Combining subjects from different boards is now possible as per National Credit Framework in India. This is widely accepted abroad as well.
2. What about practical?
Although practical science is a challenge for online schools, we offer an experience of practical work through videos, simulations, encouraging simple experiments at home, etc. Practical work is an essential part of any science education. It helps students to understand abstract concepts and to develop experimentation skills. We offer a variety of resources and activities, including videos, simulations, and experiments that can be conducted at home safely. These activities allow our students to gain a deep understanding of practical concepts and to develop the skills they need to be successful in examinations.
21K School will offer an Alternative to Practical paper at Cambridge IGCSE. Students must note that this is not available at Cambridge International AS & A Level, as skills developed in practical work are assessed directly in the exam. If your child would like to study science at Cambridge International AS & A Level, we recommend students opt for the Edexcel Science Subjects at International Advanced Level.
3. How many subjects are Compulsory subjects in 9th and 10th also in A level if any?
At IGCSE level: Learners usually study Cambridge IGCSE over one or two years, though a few study IGCSE over three years. At 21K School, Cambridge IGCSE is spread over two years. We do not offer a one-year accelerated IGCSE Programme. Usually, learners often study eight or nine subjects, and occasionally more, over two years. In others, learners study a reduced number of subjects, typically about five or six, over one year. Reducing the Cambridge Upper Secondary programme to one year directly influences the balance of the curriculum, as the curriculum will be narrower for any learner studying fewer subjects. We recommend that you choose the number of subjects based on your career goals and preferred university’s entry requirements. IGCSE qualification is awarded based on individual subjects. Hence, part-time students will have no difficulty studying a few subjects at 21K School and other subjects pursued through other Cambridge International Schools.
At Advanced level: 21K School offers students three different approaches for Cambridge AS/A Level. Each approach will have a different effect on the structure of the school curriculum and the school timetable.
Approach 1 Approach 2 Approach 3 A 'non-staged' assessment route. Learners take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level course in the same examination series, usually at the end of the second year of study.
A learner who successfully completes the non- stage option will normally have studied three or four Cambridge International A Level courses.
A 'staged' assessment route. Learners take the Cambridge International AS Level in Year 1 and/or Year 2 and complete the final Cambridge International A Level in the second series.
A learner who successfully completes the staged assessment option might have outcomes that include:
- Three Cambridge international A Levels and one AS Level (first example below)
- Two Cambridge International A Levels and Four AS Levels (second example below)
- Three Cambridge International A Levels and two AS Levels (third example below).
Cambridge International AS Level only. Learners take the Cambridge International AS Level exams only. The syllabus content for Cambridge International AS Level is half of a Cambridge International A Level programme.
A learner who successfully completes the Cambridge Internaitonal AS Level only assessment option might have studied eight Cambridge International AS Level courses, completing four in each year. This could represent a broad and balanced curriculum but with less specialisation and depth.
Before Students decide on which of the three approaches they might follow, it is important for them to check the requirements of universities and other higher education institutions where they are likely to want to go. Universities in some countries require three full A Levels for their most popular courses – Approaches 1 or 2 could work for these. Approach 3, AS only, has the potential to provide the broadest and most balanced curriculum but the compromise is less specialisation. This may however be ideal in countries/universities where AS Levels are accepted on their own.
Learners need guidance to ensure their intended course of study provides the learning and qualifications they need, either for admission into higher-level studies or for pursuing a particular career. As mentioned, it is vital to consider admission requirements for national and international universities and other higher learning institutions when selecting subjects and assessments. Learners can choose from a range of assessment options. Some subjects can be started as a Cambridge International AS Level and extended to a Cambridge International A Level.
4. Maximum how many subjects student can opt?
It depends to students time and interest. At IGCSE, students studying 5 subjects is considered full-time and students pursuing 3 subjects at Advanced Level are considered full-time.
5. How many subjects student has to opt (Mandatory) for grade 9-10 and 11 -12 grade wise?
Five and Three respectively if the student is full-time.
6. What is the registration process and charges for grade 10 and 12?
Cambridge Examination sessions are conducted thrice a year, in March (for students in India only), June and November. Results are issued in May, August and January, respectively. All examinations are pen and paper-based at any of the Associate Centres of Cambridge. Students are advised to check for the availability of the nearest Associate Centre before enrolling with 21K School. These Associate Centres are Cambridge Schools accepting private candidates, and the list can be checked online here https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/why-choose-us/find-a-cambridge-school/
Cambridge International provides time-zone variation of papers for its assessments. This ensures that students who sit examinations before others cannot compromise the security of the examinations while examinations are timetabled at reasonable local times. To check your Zone, please click here.
7. What are the per-subject exam charges?
Students must pay Cambridge Associate Centre fees, exam entry fees per subject and late fees, if applicable. There could be additional charges for the review of results, duplicate copies of mark sheets, etc. The amount of these charges varies from year to year, country to country and cannot be ascertained at this point in time.
8. Need confirmation on time table means it will be 9.30 am to 5.30 pm? Or any other format.
Classes at 21K School are conducted between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm IST, every weekday to accommodate our students’ learning schedules. Each student is required to attend classes based on the subjects they choose, and a full-time student usually studies live classes for 20 hours per week, working four hours each day, Monday through Friday. Each term's classes are decided in advance, and classes may vary depending on the variety of courses enrolled in by the individual student. Unlike classes from grades 1 to 8, IGCSE and AS/A Level classes do not distinguish between morning and afternoon classes. Classes are available consecutively for 6 hours per day.
9. Exam format: kindly correct me if I am wrong here: Grade 9, and 11 exams will be internal with 21K, and grade 10 and 12th final exams will be in the physical exam centre. (Manjula ma'am told one team member that for grade 11 exam will be external, n grade 12 also will be external, so little confused)
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a two-year programme consisting of board exams conducted at the end of 2nd year only (a.k.a. Grade 10) in pen and paper mode at one of its Associate Centres.
In the case of Cambridge Advanced, AS Level is typically one year, and A Level is typically a two-year course, assessed at the end of the 2nd year (a.k.a. Grade 12).
While most AS Level subjects are assessed in pen and paper mode by Cambridge International at the end of Year 1 (a.k.a. Grade 11), students can also take AS Level subjects in the 2nd Year (a.k.a. Grade 12) also. Hence, At the Advanced Level, there will be Boards Exams (pen and paper mode) in both Grades 11 and 12. This is also called a Staged Assessment Route.
21K School will provide ample preparation for students throughout this programme by providing mock assessments, internal assessments and review tests as part of the assessment process. It should be noted that such scores have no bearing on the final results declared by Cambridge International. Ultimately, these assessments are designed to help equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their examinations.
